What Is Huntress? (MDR/EDR Explained)

Triumphant uses Huntress to detect and respond to threats on your devices. It runs quietly alongside your existing antivirus. Here's what it actually is and how it works.

EDR vs. MDR

These two terms get used together a lot, so it's worth separating them:

• EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response) is the software agent installed on your devices. It watches for suspicious behavior, footholds, and techniques attackers use to stick around after getting in, the kind of activity a normal antivirus often misses.
• MDR (Managed Detection and Response) is the human side. A 24/7-staffed Security Operations Center (SOC) reviews what the EDR agent flags, decides what's actually a threat, and acts on it.

Huntress is both: the agent on your devices, and the SOC team watching what it finds.

What Huntress Is Watching For

Antivirus is good at catching known malware. Huntress is built for what antivirus tends to miss, attackers who've already gotten a foothold and are trying to persist, move around, or stay hidden. That includes things like:

• Suspicious persistence mechanisms (software quietly configured to survive a reboot)
• Unusual login and privilege escalation activity
• Ransomware behavior in progress

What Happens If Something Is Found

• The SOC reviews the alert, in most cases within minutes, to confirm whether it's a real threat or a false positive.
• If it's real, the affected device can be isolated from the network automatically, cutting off an attacker's access before it spreads.
• Triumphant is notified immediately and takes it from there, including reaching out to you if we need more context or if action is required on your end.

What You Should Do

• You don't need to do anything for Huntress to run, it's already deployed and monitoring in the background.
• If a device gets isolated, don't try to reconnect it yourself, we'll be in touch and will clear it once it's confirmed safe.
• If you notice something odd on your device, unexpected pop-ups, unfamiliar software, a machine running slow for no reason, submit a ticket. Huntress catches a lot, but a heads-up from you never hurts.
