Why We Require a Password Manager (Keeper)
Every managed user is required to use Keeper. MFA and passkeys already protect your most important accounts (see Our Security Principles), but they don't cover everything, and the gap left over is exactly what a password manager closes.
What MFA Doesn't Cover
MFA gets enforced on the accounts that matter most, your Microsoft 365 login, and whatever else falls under that policy. It doesn't typically reach:
- Vendor portals, SaaS tools, domain registrars, and other logins outside that core policy
- Password reuse, if a password used at work also gets used on some random tool that later gets breached, that password is now public wherever else it's used
- Shared or service account credentials that don't have one specific person behind them, the kind that usually end up on a sticky note or in a spreadsheet without a password manager
Keeper is what covers that long tail, not by replacing MFA, but by making sure every login, not just the ones we've formally locked down, has a strong, unique password behind it.
What Keeper Actually Does
- Generates and stores a strong, unique password for every login, so reuse stops being the default.
- Autofills credentials through a browser extension and mobile app, so there's no reason to fall back on a weak, memorable password out of convenience.
- Provides secure sharing for shared or service account credentials, so a vendor login can be shared with the right people without being shared in a Slack message or a spreadsheet.
How It's Billed
Keeper is billed at pass-through pricing, the same model as Microsoft 365 licensing: what it costs is what shows up on your invoice, per user, no markup added.
What You Should Do
- Use Keeper for every login, not just the ones that feel important. That's the entire point, the tool doesn't help if it's only used selectively.
- Store any shared or service account credentials in a shared Keeper folder rather than a spreadsheet, a note, or a chat message.
- Don't request an exception to skip using it. Like MFA, this isn't a convenience trade-off we're willing to make on a case-by-case basis.
